How do you add your own thumbnail to your YouTube video?

This another in a brand new series of videos that I am producing for my new YouTube channel HowDoYouDoStuff.

A channel dedicated to short videos on how to do stuff.

In this video, I am going to show you how simple it is to add your own thumbnail to your YouTube video.

In this video, I am going to show you how simple it is to add your own thumbnail to your YouTube video.

Sometimes, you want your videos to have a custom thumbnail. Perhaps it's a logo.

I certainly do.

I like all of my videos to have a branded logo as you can see from my other YouTube channel. Although, I have one or two exceptions.

When you upload a new video to YouTube, three frames are chosen from your video for you to choose a thumbnail from.

Quite often, none of these frames are suitable.

So in order to provide your own, you need to follow the Info and Settings link from your Video Manager page.

There you will find the three possible thumbnails plus a button "Customise thumbnail .."  enabling you to customise your own.

Now this is important. You will only see this link if you have at least one video on your channel with a 1000 hits or more. In which case, YouTube consider you a partner and allow you to manage your content more effectively.

So you click on this button and then locate an image to upload.

It shouldn't be too large as it will only be displayed 120 pixels wide.

Once you have selected your image, give it a second or two to upload and then click the Save Changes link before returning to your Video Manager page.

You might need to wait a moment but pretty soon your video will be listed with its new customised thumbnail.

There you have it.

In this video, I have shown you how easy it is to add your own thumbnail to your YouTube video. All you have to do is wait until one of your videos has had 1000 hits or more.

And just as soon as I get 1000 hits for a video on this channel, you can bet that I'll add my own thumbnails to these videos too!
